The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has declared April as National Distracted Driving Awareness month.  The Keizer Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit will be adding extra patrols funded through grants provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation.  These officers will be out on overtime specifically to enforce traffic laws associated with distracted driving.

The Traffic Safety Unit’s goal is to reduce the number of injury and property damage crashes, thus increasing everyone’s safety on Keizer’s roads.  National Distracted Driving Awareness month is designed to remind all drivers, that their only job is to drive in a safe manner and to encourage everyone to pull over to use their cellphone, or have a “designated texter.”
