Salem, Ore. — A Salem Police officer on patrol in the area Portland RD and Hyacinth ST NE heard the sound of gun shots at approximately 12:30 a.m. this morning.
The officer located the crime scene and found one victim of a gunshot wound, a 47-year-old woman who was out walking her dog. Officers also located a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound. Both people were transported to Salem Health with non‑life‑threatening injuries.
The initial investigation reveals two men from two different groups gathered in the street got into a physical altercation when the gun fire occurred. The crowd dispersed with one group fleeing to a nearby residence in the 4200 block of Fir Rest WY NE.
A search warrant was served at the Fir Rest residence and a short-barrel rifle was seized. Two men were arrested and lodged at the Marion County Jail on various charges unrelated to the incident:
- Jose Miguel Bermudes-Lopez, age 25
- Christofer Campuzano-Guevara, age 22
One boy, age 14, was transported to the Marion County Juvenile Department on a probation violation warrant. A second male juvenile, a 16-year-old runaway, was released into the custody of a parent.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit are leading this active investigation, and no further information is available for release.
