PORTLAND, Ore. — There’s no better time than National Energy Awareness Month to use less energy, save money and live more comfortably. NW Natural customers in Marion and Polk counties with qualifying incomes may be eligible for free weatherization services through a partnership between NW Natural and Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency.

With the arrival of cooler weather, updating to high-efficiency gas appliances and improving home insulation can make homes more comfortable, save energy and lower bills. Potential upgrades include home insulation, new gas furnaces or hot water heaters, and sealing air leaks. The average program participant typically receives several thousand dollars’ worth of free products and services.

To qualify, monthly gross income for households cannot exceed the following:

  • One person: $2,430/mo
  • Two people: $3,286.66/mo
  • Three people: $4,143.33/mo
  • Four people: $5,000/mo
  • For each additional household member, add $857 per person.

Additionally, on Monday, October 30 Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action is hosting a Weatherization Day Trunk or Treat event from 4-7 p.m. at 2551 Pringle Road SE in Salem, with information on how attendees can improve energy efficiency, meet contractors who perform weatherization work and win door prizes.

“Taking steps to better weatherize your home can save you money, make your home more comfortable and reduce overall energy use,” said Mary Moerlins, Director of Environmental Policy and Corporate Responsibility at NW Natural. “Through our partners at Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency, we’re proud to be able to help customers take steps to lower bills and improve home comfort.”

“Keeping families healthy and comfortable in their home is our goal,” said Hector Guzman, program director for the MWVCAA Weatherization Assistance Program. “Thanks to our partnership with NW Natural we are able to help make this goal a reality for many struggling families and seniors in Marion and Polk counties.”
