On Friday, October 13, 2023, a large group of family, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay tribute to Undersheriff Jeff Wood and to wish him well in retirement. Undersheriff Wood’s retirement brings to a close a distinguished 29-year career in law enforcement.
Undersheriff Wood began his law enforcement career in 1994 with the Marion County Corrections Parole and Probation Department. In 1996, he joined the Multnomah County Adult Community Justice Department for a brief period until returning to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office the following year as a Deputy Sheriff with the Community Corrections Division.
Undersheriff Wood rose through the ranks as he was promoted to sergeant in 2004, Commander in 2009, and Undersheriff in 2019. Undersheriff Wood is leaving behind a legacy in several areas, most notably within our Community Corrections Division. While serving in Community Corrections, Undersheriff Wood has been a pioneer in program development and initiatives. He worked to improve the services provided by Community Corrections and embraced best practices throughout the division. He led the development of numerous programs designed to effectively transition adults released back to the community from incarceration. His collaborative efforts improved the lives of not only those he served in Marion County but has been a strong and constant voice across the entire state.
Undersheriff Wood will be spending his well-earned retirement doing the things he loves and spending time with the family and friends he holds dear. Thank you for your service, Undersheriff Wood; we wish you all the best.
