The City of Salem is Asking You to Report Potholes on Your Routes

Posted on January 27, 2024

Due to freezing temperatures, ice, snow, and heavy rain, our streets have taken a beating this past week, increasing the likelihood of potholes on our roadways.

Potholes occur when water seeps into the street surface through cracks and crevices. Subsequent freezing and thawing weaken the asphalt, leading to damage as vehicles pass over it.

You can protect your car by slowing down and increasing your following distance to spot unmarked hazards. If you see a pothole, please report it to Salem’s Public Works Dispatch Center, service@cityofsalem.net or 503-588-6311.
