Changes to Willamette University’s baseball stadium, resulting in additional use of Bush’s Pasture Park land, will be considered by the Salem City Council at their Monday, June 24 meeting. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meeting agenda
An amendment and restatement of the ballpark agreement between the City and the university is up for consideration. The City has had the agreement with the university since 1975. The change is part of a broader initiative by the university and Salem Baseball LLC to enhance John Lewis Field. The agreement notes that City and Salem-Keizer School District want to continue to use the field for activities including district competitions and recreational programs.
The changes would expressly allow use of more Bush’s Pasture Park property for stadium-related improvements.
5-Year Capital Improvement Plan
Council is also expected to vote on Salem’s Capital Improvement Plan for Fiscal Year 2025-2029 (CIP), which identifies prospective construction projects and funding. The plan’s goals are to:
- create a transparent improvement plan process
- establish a risk-based project priority list
- match the priority list to limited resources in a thoughtful and responsible way
- establish an internal CIP review committee to oversee its process
It’s adoption will affirm the Budget Committee’s recommendation after their review of the plan in April.
Recommended Budget
The Budget Committee’s recommended budget is also slated for a final vote. The budget includes funding for valued City services including current library staffing, splash fountains and free park activities.
