Salem Man Sentenced to 37.5 Years for Child Sexual Abuse

Posted on August 3, 2024

On July 30, 2024, Marion County Circuit Court Judge, Courtland Geyer, sentenced Randy Lee Salas for six counts of child sexual abuse that he committed against a young girl when she was seven to ten years old.

A Marion County jury listened to the evidence presented during a three-day jury trial and on May 31, 2024, found Randy Salas guilty of five counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and one count of Sodomy in the First Degree. The jury also found that each of these convictions were separate incidents and separate criminal episodes. Following the guilty verdict, Judge Geyer held Randy Salas in custody pending sentencing.

On July 30, 2024, Judge Geyer sentenced Randy Salas to a total sentence of 37.5 years in prison. The minimum sentence he could have imposed was a little over 8 years. Salas is not eligible for early release and will have to register as a sex offender.

This case was investigated by the Salem Police Detective Sean Kelly.  Liberty House conducted a forensic interview and medical evaluation on the child victim, ensuring that she received access to treatment and additional services if needed.  The Marion County District attorney’s Office would like to acknowledge the important role both agencies played in ensuring justice for this victim.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Kylie Kuhns. In the last week, two of DDA Kuhns’ prosecutions have ensured over 60 years in prison for two dangerous sexual predators.
