At its meeting on Monday, December 9, Salem City Council will consider whether to renew Salem’s Tourism Promotion Area for another five years. A public hearing will precede the decision. Meetings of the Council, Salem Housing Authority and Salem Urban Renewal Agency begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.

In 2019, the City Council approved an Economic Improvement District for a Tourism Promotion Area in Salem. The funding is used by Travel Salem to promote overnight tourism through advertising, branding, promotions, sponsorship of special events, and other programs that increase overnight transient lodging stays.
In other business, Council will:
- Decide whether to initiate eminent domain/condemnation proceedings related to the Bridges Rehabilitation Project funded by the 2022 Safety and Livability Bond. The project would rehabilitate three bridges on Mill Creek at Liberty Street, 15th Street NE and 17th Street NE, and one over Pringle Creek at Mission Street.
Appoint members to various boards and commissions.
