Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan reports that yesterday, December 9, at 9:23 p.m., the Linn County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a possible threat made toward the schools in the Mill City area.
A juvenile male reported to deputies that he was stopped by two males on Highway 22 in Mill City. One male, an adult from the area, was known to the juvenile and began a conversation about an altercation the adult male had with other juveniles from the high school back in October. The adult male wanted the juvenile to give him some information on those juveniles involved in the altercation. The juvenile reported during the conversation, the unidentified male that was with the adult male known to him, made the comment that he “Had a gun and would be shooting up his school tomorrow.”
As the Linn County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats seriously, deputies began investigating through the night, including interviewing those involved in the altercation earlier in October.
Deputies worked with Santiam Canyon School District officials to make a threat assessment of the comment made. Through the interviews, deputies were not able to identify the male or verify the threats. There was no evidence supporting the threat or its credibility. Out of an abundance of caution, the Sheriff’s Office will be highly visible in the area and in the schools.
