The National Weather Service has issued a forecast that the Willamette River in Salem could rise to 21.1 feet on Sunday, January 5, at around 10 p.m. This will be slightly below flood action level, but is an early warning to prepare for the potential of rising water in low-lying areas.
At this level, flooding could cause road closures occur at:
- Homestead Road S
- Farragut Avenue S
- Minto-Brown Island Park
- Wallace Marine Park.
Rain is forecast to continue through the weekend, along with breezy winders into Monday, January 6, before about a week of drier, colder weather takes over. The river level Friday morning was 17.1 feet.
