Trust Your Instincts, Leadership Matters & Oregon at a Crossroads – Newsmakers At Noon 4/7/26

Posted on April 7, 2026

Today’s show opened with a troubling local story out of Salem’s Riverfront Park, where a mother warned others about a man taking an unusual interest in her young daughter. The conversation centered on the importance of trusting parental instincts and protecting children—while also addressing the backlash she received online. We discussed what happens when society ignores warning signs in favor of misplaced, “suicidal”  empathy, and the risks that create.

🚀 On a more inspiring note, we highlighted the Artemis II mission, including the President’s call to the astronauts and a spotlight on Commander Reid Wiseman—a widowed father of two whose story of perseverance and leadership resonated deeply. A reminder of the kind of example that still exists in this country.

📱 A little real talk: put the phone down and experience life as it happens. Not everything needs to be recorded—and most of it won’t be watched anyway.

🏙️ Back here at home, Oregon continues to face serious challenges:

  • Portland’s mayor is seeking millions from neighboring counties to address a $15M homeless funding gap
  • Portland leaders are floating business tax relief, while also considering fees on long-term vacant properties
  • Multnomah County cannot account for over $150,000 in gift cards, raising more accountability concerns

📊 Politically, the landscape is taking shape, with early fundraising numbers showing a significant gap among Republican gubernatorial candidates, and growing calls for unity among voters who want a change in leadership.

The broader theme: where Oregon is headed—and whether enough people are willing to step up, pay attention, and change course.
