On today’s Newsmakers at Noon, we explored several stories raising important questions about Oregon’s future—from wildfire preparedness and economic policy to election integrity and faith-based outreach.
As wildfire season intensifies, we discussed a new analysis suggesting Portland may be vulnerable to an urban wildfire similar to the devastating fires seen in Southern California. The conversation examined how overgrown vegetation, aging infrastructure, climate conditions, and urban density could combine to create serious fire risks if preventative measures aren’t taken.
We also looked at growing concerns over election security after a widely shared social media post argued that Oregon’s voting system allows non-citizens to become registered voters under certain circumstances.
