Beyond HD 19, Oregon politics are already heating up. The Democratic Party of Oregon has launched its “No Trump in Oregon” statewide tour, an effort explicitly aimed at linking Republican gubernatorial nominee Christine Drazan to President Trump and his administration. The workplace may be changing too. A new federal Thirty-Two-Hour Workweek Act, H.R. 10323, was introduced September 8. It would amend federal labor law to reduce the standard workweek used for overtime purposes from 40 to 32 hours; it has been referred to the House Committee on Education and Workforce and has not become law. And we turned to a much bigger question about the future: artificial intelligence. Humans First describes itself as a conservative organization advocating an “America First” approach to AI, including protecting American jobs, families and national security while maintaining U.S. technological leadership. We also discussed the continuing debate over ideology and education, including a story out of Idaho and the broader question of how parents, taxpayers and elected officials should respond when they believe schools have moved beyond education and into political or ideological advocacy.
