Today’s Newsmakers at Noon welcomed Angela Plowhead, Republican candidate for Oregon Senate District 10, for a wide-ranging conversation about why she’s running and what she believes needs to change in Oregon.
We talked about the issues increasingly driving conversations around the state, including AI data centers, Flock surveillance cameras and privacy, and Oregon’s decision to move individual health insurance customers from the federal Obamacare marketplace to the new Explore Health Oregon state-operated system.
With Election Day getting closer, we also asked Angela about the bigger political picture: Are Oregon voters ready for significant change – not only in the governor’s race, but in House and Senate contests across the state? Angela shared her priorities, campaign outlook and ways voters can learn more and get involved.
Elsewhere, Northwest gas prices are climbing heading into the holiday weekend, giving us another kitchen-table issue to chew on. At what point do gas prices actually cause Americans to change their behavior – and when voters get angry at the pump, who ultimately gets the blame?
We also waded into another cultural debate involving men in women’s spaces and the media’s handling of gender identity, asking how the public is supposed to discuss legitimate questions about safety without running afoul of ever-changing rules about language.
And Ryan Reynolds decided to explain the 1980s. Denise, who actually lived through the decade, had…thoughts. 😂 Sometimes those of us who were there remember things a little differently than Hollywood does.
