Election Day, TextGate & Oregon’s Political Crossroads – Newsmakers At Noon 5/19/26

Posted on May 20, 2026

🗳️ Today is Primary Election Day in Oregon! If you still have your ballot sitting on the counter — GET IT TURNED IN. We talked about growing signs of #PrimaryFatigue and why low turnout elections often produce the biggest long-term consequences.

📊 We previewed what to watch for tonight as results begin rolling in across the state.

🔥 One of the biggest stories developing in the GOP governor primary is “TextGate.”

The Diehl campaign issued a press release calling on Christine Drazan to suspend her campaign after Rep. Dwayne Yunker filed an ethics complaint tied to controversial smear texts — including a subsequent message allegedly sent from “Friends of Christine Drazan” originating from the same phone number as the original text.

📱 Meanwhile, screenshots circulating online have fueled discussion surrounding a Wyoming-based company called 1221 LLC, which campaign finance records show received payments from multiple Republican gubernatorial campaigns for digital and broadcast advertising services.

The listed address appears tied to a registered-agent privacy service rather than a traditional public-facing ad firm. While that alone proves nothing improper, it has sparked legitimate questions about transparency and campaign operations.

📺 We also discussed Chris Dudley’s appearance this morning on Fox & Friends, making his closing pitch to voters in the final hours before ballots are counted.

🌆 Outside Oregon:

  • Seattle’s new socialist mayor reportedly directed police not to arrest for open drug use citywide
  • NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is now reportedly meeting with CEOs trying to stop companies from leaving New York after aggressively anti-business rhetoric during the campaign

On the cultural side:
✈️ Top Gun returning to theaters ahead of America’s 250th celebration sparked nostalgia and discussion about patriotism, shared culture, and whether Hollywood still understands what audiences actually want.

🚘 We also had a lighter but surprisingly spirited conversation about black license plates, white license plates, identity, aesthetics, and what these little cultural markers say about people and regions.

A fast-moving Election Day show covering turnout, campaign drama, transparency, culture, and the future direction of Oregon politics.
